Dr. Morag Park Inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

We are pleased to congratulate Dr. Morag Park, of the GCI and McGill’s Department of Biochemistry,on her induction into The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame June 18, 2026 - "A trailblazer in cancer research and precision therapies" 

Morag has devoted her career to answering this question. An internationally recognized leader at McGill’s Goodman Cancer Institute, Dr. Park has illuminated the molecular basis of human cancer, especially breast cancer. Early in her career, she discovered and characterized the MET gene, frequently altered in solid tumours and a key driver of tumour growth and metastasis. Her insights into MET’s role in progression helped pave the way for precision therapies that improve patient care. Dr. Park was instrumental in establishing one of Quebec’s first breast cancer biobanks at the McGill University Health Centre. Using this resource, she revealed the critical roles of the tumour stroma and immune microenvironment in breast cancer progression, discoveries now integrated into clinical practice. Patient-derived tumour models from the biobank enable research on why individuals respond differently to therapies, advancing precision oncology.

Beyond her laboratory, Dr. Park has strengthened the cancer research community by leading large multidisciplinary teams and shaping national strategy. As a Chair of the Canadian Cancer Research Alliance, she oversaw the first Pan-Canadian Cancer Research Strategic Plan, leaving a lasting impact on cancer research in Canada and beyond.  Congratulations Dr. Park on this great achievement.
